The 3rd Annual Police Motorcycle Skills Championship - Daytona International Speedway - For additional information on the Police Motorcycle Skills
Championship, contact Officer Nick Fiore at (386) 254-7421.
Last year's event drew 155 officers from across the country who
raised funds for the Daytona Beach Chapter of the Police Athletic
League. Close to 200 competitors are expected this year.
"We've had great response from last year," says Officer Nick Fiore
of the Daytona Beach Public Safety Department, who is serving as
event coordinator.
The skills championship tests motorcycle officers' ability to
negotiate the tight turns of a specially-designed course.
Participants from three primary motorcycle classifications
(Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson FXRP and Harley-Davidson FLH) are timed
through the marked course. The judges then add time to the
officers' score for penalties, such as touching or knocking over
cones.
Events begin with registration at the headquarters hotel, Ramada
Oceanfront Resort, on October 9. Practice at Daytona International
Speedway will be open to the public on Thursday and Friday
beginning at 8 a.m. with a $5 admission fee. Children 12 and under
are admitted free.
On Friday evening at 6 p.m., the police officers will parade in
uniform at the King Neptune's Seafood Harvest seafood festival in
downtown Daytona Beach. The actual motorcycle competition will be
held from 8 a.m. until completion at the Speedway on Saturday,
October 12, with a $5 admission fee. An awards ceremony will follow
on Saturday evening.
The Police Motorcycle Skills Championship is part of the fast-

The American National Unimotorcyclists Society
(A.N.U.S.), one-wheeled motorcycle racing will be held Saturday, October 19, beginning at noon at the Municipal Stadium located on LPGA Boulevard, 3 miles west of the
International Speedway off Route 92.
In unimotorcycle racing, contestants must create a one-wheeled
vehicle capable of traveling 100 feet without touching forward of
the axle. The current World Record Holder is Bob Scheskie at 2.45
seconds. This sport was born in the Daytona Beach area and has
quickly become an internationally renowned event with competitors
coming from as far away as Switzerland and Canada! The whole world
is fascinated by the guts and glory of unimotorcycle racing.
Unimotorcycle racing is the most exciting new motor sport of the
decade!
This event will feature Indian vs. Harley Unimotorcycle Drag
Racing. Sidecar Willy, inventor of unimotorcycles and
unimotorcycle racing and founder of the American National
Unimotorcyclists Society (A.N.U.S.) has announced that he will be
racing a 1940 Indian Chief Unimotorcycle and has challenged
"Spacer", Tampa's racing madmen, to race. Spacer has answered that
challenge with a Harley-Davidson Unimotorcycle that he believes
will take the record in the Unlimited Class. This race has been
dubbed "Indian vs. Harley - The Last Great Battle!"
In addition to the Indian vs. Harley unimotorcycle duel, A.N.U.S.
(as seen in Easyriders, Supercycle, Outlaw Biker, and others) will
host races in five other classes: 0-199 cc; 200-399 cc; 400-750 cc;
Electric Class and Rocket Class!
Couples are invited to compete in the Human Hummers Contest. In
this contest, the woman holds an excercise wheel in her hands and
wraps her legs around her man's waist as he propels her down the
track on one wheel! The winning couple wins $50 and two free
A.N.U.S. T-shirts.
This event is sponsored by Easyriders, Harley-Davidson, Florida
Bikers Digest, the Iron Horse Saloon, Daytona News Journal, and
will be filmed by Born to Ride television! Easyriders will also
cover the event.
According to the July 1995 issue of Easyriders, "Don't miss the
A.N.U.S. racing madmen and their machines - they're wild!"
For information on this event, contact Sidecar Willy or Tiny at
(386) 228-3055. Admission to this event is $10.
A.N.U.S. will debut the Indian and Harley unimotorcycles at the
Iron Horse Saloon on Friday, October 18, beginning at noon. Meet
Sidecar Will and Spacer during this exhibition!

part of the Daytona Beach News Journal's Motorcycle Expo at the
Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, also on October 18. One hundred
